Weekend Recap 5/9/16: Yoga, new job, studying

May 9, 2016 in College

Hi guys and happy Monday! Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Going to be doing a recap of my weekend so let’s get started!

Friday

My last day of classes was on Wednesday, so I used Thursday and Friday for some homework time. On Friday, I got up and went with my friend Paige at 8:30 to go to a cafe and crank out some work.

Started my morning with a whole wheat bagel, cream cheese, a banana, and iced coffee… with a side of philosophy. Paige got an egg and cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread with a banana and iced coffee!

After spending time doing schoolwork, we headed back to campus to grab lunch before going to volunteer. Paige is our college’s coordinator for best buddies (how awesome is that) and we went to go there together. For any of you who don’t know, best buddies is a program in which you are paired with a buddy who has a mental or physical disability/impairment. You spend time with them and are similar to a mentor and friend. I absolutely adore my time with my buddy and the program in general. I look forward to seeing my buddy every Friday. πŸ™‚

The person I can always count on to give me the best hugs in the world- I love Matt and his smile is truly contagious!Β

After volunteering, we got another coffee for an afternoon pick me up. I took a quick nap then began getting ready for yoga. I picked up Paige and my friend Jillian around 4:15 to make the trip to Rhode Island! We signed up for a yoga class a few weeks agoΒ that included a vinyasa flow, dancing, and talking as a group about setting new intentions for the month of May and reviewing the previous month. It was an open ended discussion, and the class as well as the studio was just simply amazing.Hands down most beautiful yoga studio I have been to, and such a great class. I loved the idea of shutting off the lights and just dancing to the music without fear of what others will think of you. The discussion was great and it was just a class for ladies, so we all got to share some of our goals for the next month. It was completely judgment free, and I would definitely make the 40 minute drive to come back up to this studio again.

They had the cutest clothes there!

Paige and I made sure to snap a pic in our peanut butter shirts too… bc how awesome are these?? And friends who love pb&yoga as much as you do?! <3Β

Saturday

Saturday morning I got up, made myself some waffles, and relaxed a bit while catching up on some blog reading.

I went to the gym around 11:00 and had a great workout! I did 45 min on the arc trainer then a 10 min ab circuit. After coming home and showering, I made myself some lunch then got ready for my first day of work!

I worked from 3:00-9:30. My boss is super nice and helped me get adjusted to the store. I was nervous for my first shift, as starting a new job is overwhelming as there is so much to learn! I still have quite a ways to go, but I am glad to have my first shift Β under my belt. I got to try some vitamin chews too which was nice and a little bit of a new pre-workout drink. πŸ™‚ My boss familiarized me with a lot of the products there and the way the store works. I completed paper work and learned how to close too! I feel like I am really going to enjoy this job though so I am excited! Just got to keep learning and adjusting to the new environment.

Sunday

On Sunday, I started my morning with breakfast and reading over some social psychology notes. My dad and I went to church at 11:30, then I came back and made myself lunch. I made my way over to Starbucks to study more social psych, then left around 4:50 to go to the gym. I did 25 min on the stair master then an arm workout along with some dead lifts!

After the gym, I got myself dinner at this place in my town called Extreme Pita which is super delish. I spent the rest of the night studying for my English final! My finals start Wednesday and this week is going to be stressful to say the least. Two finals Wednesday, a paper due Thursday, a final Thursday, and a final Friday… a lot of studying my way but I need to stay positive and remind myself that I can do it even though it seems like a lot!

Now tell me:

If you were to go to a cafe, your breakfast order would be… ?Β

What do you tell yourself to make it through stressful and busy times?Β

Hope you guys have a great Monday!

Sending my love as always.

Xoxo

Your volunteering sounds like so much fun and so rewarding. Your heart is soooo incredibly big, missy. Can you just move to MD already and be my BFF? πŸ˜€

My breakfast is ALWAYS some kind of bagel, probably egg and pepper jack cheese and avocado!

That studio looks amazing, let’s go!! πŸ™‚ My go-to cafe breakfast is always some sort of egg dish like an omelette or Huevos Rancheros if I’m feelin’ supah fancy. πŸ˜‰ I’m soooo happy that you love your new job too and that your boss is super nice!! You’re going to be great and you’ll get so many awesome goodies I bet hehe! Have a wonderful rest of your day dear! <3

It sounds like you had a lovely weekend – and a great first day!

As for breakfast at a cafe? In my dream world it would be a ham and cheese croissant – but in my real life coeliac world? Probably an omelette. Cafes ALWAYS make better omelettes than I can!

    • Reply Alyssa May 10, 2016 at 1:20 pm

Cafes really do make amazing omelettes!! I have such a hard time flipping omelettes lol πŸ™‚ Have a great week Kristy!

Aaah! I love that sign Lyss! πŸ™‚ Your weekend looks FANTASTIC friend! And what would I order at a breakfast cafe? Hmm… A huge bowl of yogurt, granola, peanut butter, and fruit. Do they serve those at cafes? Or I would order a big bagel sandwich.

    • Reply Alyssa May 10, 2016 at 1:17 pm

I LOVE yogurt bowls!! And bagel sandwiches πŸ™‚ Have a lovely week Emily!! <3

I work at a cafΓ© and my favorite breakfast is either a loaded breakfast burrito (tofu scramble, hasbrowns, avocado, Daiya cheese, and salsa) or a scone. I absolutely love both those things!
When times get busy or stressful, I freak out internally and then remind myself that this too will pass. Time always does πŸ™‚ Good luck on finals!

    • Reply Alyssa May 10, 2016 at 1:15 pm

That breakfast burrito sounds great! But that is a great thing to tell yourself to get through stressful times. Thank you so much for the good luck wishes!

I’m so glad your first shift went well! I’m sure you will get the hang of things very soon. GNC seems like a fun place to work. Plus discounts off Complete Cookies, right?! πŸ˜‰
Good luck with finals this week! You’re going to feel so good when the weekend rolls around. You’re in my prayers! <3

ohmigosh – I love the Pomeranian. At a cafe, I’d order eggs and a coffee – milk, no sugar. When times get busy, I like to think back to stressful times in the past. It reminds me that I can get through anything! Good luck on all of your finals! πŸ™‚
