Thinking Out Loud 6/9/16: Life as of Late

June 9, 2016 in About Me

Hi guys and happy Thursday! Going to be sharing some rambles today about life recently. Thank you Amanda for letting me share what’s on my mind today and the link up!

Work

Work has been going well! I’m working 3-4 days a week at GNC and am adjusting well. Definitely a lot to know, but with time it will all get easier! I also babysit on the side so I have been doing that too. Trying to make some money and build up my bank account this summer.

Friends

My friends back home are great. I have 4 really close friends and I am so blessed to have them. This past Monday, I had a fire at my house with some friends and some people my friend Ceara knows. It was fun to get out of my “routine” and just let loose. I think that is SO good for my well-being and for anyone’s well-being. Having fun, being spontaneous, and breaking those rules that we tend to hold so tightly upon ourselves.

Workouts

Working out has been fun! It has been consisting of days with more cardio and less weights, days with more weights and less cardio, yoga, circuit workouts, walking my dog, etc. I am so glad I don’t feel the need to just do cardio anymore, because I really don’t find that enjoyable. I have found a love for lifting weights, even though I don’t lift that heavy, and I love how strong it makes me feel. For cardio, I like the stair master, arc trainer, and bike. I like to run too, but by no means am I some great distance runner. But it is a good way for me to clear my head and I never push myself to go further when I am exhausted like I once did in the past. Yoga is great and I like to try and go once a week. It really helps with my mental health and just makes me feel SO good.

Family

My family has been well. My mom returned Friday from a road trip to visit her family with her mom. She was gone for over a week and it was great to see her. My dad started therapy Wednesday and said he really liked it, so hopefully that will help him. My brother just started a new job which is awesome too!

Mental Health

My mental health has been a lot better lately. I went through a funk towards the end of May, and I attribute a lot of that to adjusting to home/putting myself in a bit of a bubble when it came to social situations. Finding a balance with social settings, parties, etc. is something I am constantly striving for, and my therapist has been a huge help with that.

Love love love these quotes.

I have found a routine at home with my job, friends, family time, and me time which has reduced my anxiety a lot too. Prayer and reading have been taking up my time too and have been making me feel a bit more whole which is also great for me. I started the book Breaking Vegan yesterday, and I already adore it. I love reading other women’s stories. Jordan is one strong lady!

Concert with my mama

This past Tuesday, my mom and I saw Of Monsters and Men and Florence and the Machine in concert together. It was absolutely AMAZING. Seeing two of my fave bands in one concert just put the biggest smile on my face. They were both so good live, and my mom and I had a blast!

Love this lady to PIECES <3

Yoga retreat?

I was talking to my therapist about this the other day. I really would love to take off and travel to Colorado. Go hiking, explore, be with nature… but I don’t think I can afford that and it isn’t too realistic right now. However, she suggested a yoga retreat and I have been looking into a weekend one. What do y’all think?! I really would LOVE to go on one this summer, so I think I’m going to start seriously looking into it/save up!

That’s it for this Thursday!

Now tell me:

Where do you work?

Have you been to any concerts this summer/are you planning on going to any?

Have a great day guys!

Sending my love as always.

Xoxo

I work at an upscale restaurant downtown, I’m a hostess with the mostess 😉 I would LOVE to go to a yoga retreat too!! I think it would be soooo good for my soul. 🙂 Plus my aunt and uncle live in Colorado and I’ve been meaning to visit them anyway. I would totally do one with you! 🙂 You and your Mom are the cutest, my mom doesn’t like Florence or OMAM lol. I’m actually going to see The Tallest Man on Earth this weekend with my bf’s sister and I’m pumped! Think Bob Dylan with a mix of indie folk, it’s gonna be awesome! You’re beautiful, have an amazing Thursday! <3

A retreat sounds really relaxing. I would love for you to come to Colorado too, but I know that life has different seasons. Ok, and I am totally loving you enjoying so much time with friends, relaxing, resting, socializing, working out (doing what you LOVE not what you hate), and that you are just BEING. :))) <3 you. Our Heavenly Father is so gracious and full of tender mercy.

Glad to hear that your summer is starting well! Depending on your location, I’d encourage you to maybe reconsider Colorado; I just booked a trip to Denver and it was way less expensive than I thought. If the finances don’t break your way, a yoga retreat sounds amazing too, though. Anything to ground yourself before starting another school year 🙂

And I work at a networking organization for female professionals, so I basically just write about women’s empowerment all day. Hope you get employee discounts at GNC!

Thank you Kathleen! Hmm, I will have to look into it more! I agree- I want something to help ground myself before starting up school again and I want to adventure! That sounds so awesome. I love reading about women’s empowerment and all that stuff. Super cool girly! You are a great writer too, so I bet you do an excellent job.

You and your mama are too cute! What a fun night out for both of you!

I work for myself! In addition to the blog I own my own business so it’s usually either me on my own working away or out meeting clients/running training courses etc

    • Reply Alyssa June 10, 2016 at 6:20 pm

Aw thank you Kristy! So cool you run your own business. I want to run my own practice for counseling when I am older!

I would love to go on a yoga retreat too! I actually touched on that on my blog today. I could tell you’ve made a lot of progress over the past month or so especially, and I am so glad that you are recognizing it for yourself girl! Love yas <3

Even though I wish she we still vegan, I actually like Jordin Younger because she realized that something wasn’t working and fixed it. Granted, she is still mostly vegan, but the things she has done for orthorexia awareness within the vegan movement was great!
Ok, I want to hear about working at GNC!

    • Reply Alyssa June 10, 2016 at 6:18 pm

I agree. She has done so much for orthorexia awareness and really does have such a powerful story! Working at GNC is fun! Lots to learn about the products, but I’m getting there! Learning about the stuff is actually interesting too. Usually never gets packed in there, but we can always find something to do!
