Some things I need to work on…

Happy Friday friends!! This was a short week for me class wise but not work wise. I still have some midterms coming up but they’ll be over in no time.

If there’s one thing I want to stress, it is that I am not perfect in any way, shape, or form. Yes, I blog about mental health and eating disorder recovery. Yes, I also have my own little slip ups and issues and we all do- we are human! There are some things that I want to work on lately and some areas that I want to progress in.

  1. Less complaining. In the grand scheme of things, my issues aren’t that significant. And the more I complain, the worse mood I get in. I need to work on accepting what I have to do and accepting where I am in the present moment and being content with that.
  2. More gratitude. Something I always feel like each and every one of us can work on.
  3. Saying no. I have the tendency to say yes to everything and stack my plate too high. I also have the tendency to say yes to things that I may not necessarily want to do just because I feel bad saying no.
  4. Going with the flow. Something I have always struggled with is not always having a plan or a schedule. Learning to go to with the flow and stray off of my routine is something I want to improve.
  5. Praying more/reading the Bible. This is something I have been shoving off to the side. I still pray, but not as much as I would like to. I need to make these things a habit.
  6. Accepting compliments. I love giving out compliments, but accepting them is something that I need to work on and actually believing what people say.
  7. Responding at blog comments. I have definitely been slacking at this. I want to work on engaging with my readers more and that means responding to comments a bit quicker.
  8. Staying mindful. Instead of worrying about all I have to do in the future or the things I have already done, I need to just learn to live in the moment and stay in the present.

    This is why we’re basically twins, because I also want to work on numbers 1-6!! I feel like I haven’t kept up with my faith since I got to college. Sure, I pray every day but sometimes I feel like I do it out of habit and not because I WANT to. Love everything about this post! Have an amazing weekend lovely <3 xoxo

    “Que sera sera” that will be. Used to be my favorite song, to help me not worry about the future.
    I love your post. We all have things to work on because we are not robots we are humans and therefore not perfect! Love you little miss sunshine.

    These all seem like really healthy goals! But it’s okay to not be perfect, and even if you don’t meet all of these goals, that’s okay too.
    Complaining less and being more grateful is something I think we all should work on. With recovery for instance–I won’t for a second deny how difficult and dangerous eating disorders can be, but I’ve also been thinking lately how grateful I am just to have access to food. I can get anxious over a late-night snack because I can eat a late-night snack, as opposed to going to bed hungry. Putting it in that perspective actually makes it a little less scary.

    Staying mindful + complaining less are both things I need to work on as well. They go hand in hand for me-when I work on being more mindful I notice I tend to complain a lot less. Some things that help me stay mindful are putting my phone away, going for a walk with no distractions, and taking 3 deep breaths before or after I start something.

    I need to tell you something babe: all college students complain. It’s ok. Forgive yourself for it, because you all do it. I did it. You guys are in a world where tests, homework and not sleeping are completely the worst things and you have OMGSOMUCHTODO! When you graduate, you will realize how much more work the real world is, and you will not complain anymore. Seriously, give yourself a break on the complaining thing, because it’s normal and expected from college students.
    I am not saying this to hate on you at all, I simply want you to know you’re not alone, but you will grow out of the complaining phase. Adulting is really hard, but SO MUCH BETTER than student life.

    Hi, sweet girl. Thank you for sharing this with us so honestly. I can definitely relate. I personally want to work on my prioritization. I need to make getting in the word every morning my #1 priority. For me, staying mindful is reflecting on the importance of the important things. I know that may sound redundant- but just taking a moment to put things in true perspective really helps- I tend to make minor issues bigger than they truly are. Thank you for sharing and sparking this conversation <3

    I definitely struggle daily with prioritizing special, set apart time to read the Bible and pray, and this was a really good reminder. I definitely struggle with being ‘busy spirited’ and not really desiring enough to sit at the feet of Jesus. I’m thankful that God used this post to convict me of that. <3

    I would also love to work on planning meals more for my family instead of being completely haphazard about them. 🙂

    I can relate to these things. Especially the accepting compliments one. I tend to just brush them off and not take them to heart. Also I’d like to work on giving more compliments because it is such a lovely way to brighten someone’s day.

    Personally I need to make some time for more meditation and prayer. I also need to work on not saying yes too often, and when I do say no, not feeling guilty about it! I think I am going to start writing down goals like these each week in my planner or journal, it always helps me to put things in writing.

    Thanks for sharing these!! I can relate to ALL the items on this list, especially prayer/spiritual practice. When school and work get busy I tend to neglect praying and reading the bible. It was a good reminder to keep God at the forefront of my life. I also need to work on being grateful. <3

    I need to try and make more time to pray. I tend to pray when things are bad, but I should go to God right when I feel things aren’t 100% right. Good luck on your midterms <3

    I need to work on making more time for me as I seem to always leave myself to last and forget about me until I’m totally frazzled and stressed out of my brain. My best friend has recently starting blocking out spots in her calendar for what she calls “margins” which is basically time she’s allocated to do whatever she feels like and NOT fill with “stuff” and I think I’m going to have to do the same until I start taking time for me naturally! 😛
