Homemade acai bowl

June 22, 2016 in Recipes / Yummy Eats

Hi guys and happy Wednesday! I got a recipe for ya: say what?! Yeah I’m not a recipe connoisseur by any means, and I give so many of you huge props for being able to experiment and create in the kitchen: maybe with time I’ll learn to be more like that! Who knows hehe.

Anywho, I’m going to be sharing a simple yet delicious recipe I’ve been loving lately.

Acai bowls– I’m in love with them. I would get one from this local place more often, but my wallet wouldn’t be too happy with me. So homemade is the trick!

Here’s what you need:

-1 Sambazon acai pack (I found these at Whole Foods!)

-1 frozen banana

-1/2 cup frozen mango

-1/3 cup strawberries

-1/3 cup almond milk

-1/2 cup water

~Blend

~Put into bowl

~Cut a few strawberries for the top. Top with granola, chia seeds, and hemp hearts for a nice authentic-like acai bowl.

What I love about this? It’s nice and thick and super fruity: with granola and the chia seeds + hemp hearts, it makes the perfect breakfast! Just like an acai bowl, without having to pay the 9 bucks!

Now tell me:

Are you a fan of acai bowls?

Do you like experimenting in the kitchen and creating new recipes?

Have a great Wednesday!

Sending my love as always.

Xoxo

Your bowl looks so yummy! I’ve actually never tried making a smoothie or acai bowl, which I think is strange considering how often I see Instagram posts about them haha. It does seem like a more satisfying way to enjoy a smoothie!

    • Reply Alyssa June 23, 2016 at 3:56 pm

You should definitely try them sometime! I love them for breakfasts and find them more satisfying than just a smoothie because you can put lots of toppings on them 🙂

You know what Lyss, acai is one “superfood” I have not jumped on the bandwagon. I tried it once in a smoothie we have at work and was less than impressed, so I haven’t tried it since. I think I should leave out the banana next time and add extra mango. Thanks for the recipe!

    • Reply Alyssa June 23, 2016 at 3:57 pm

Maybe give it another go! Sometimes adding other fruit can do the trick.

  • Reply Megan June 23, 2016 at 12:48 am

That looks so good! I’ve never tried making my own acai bowls because it is so dang expensive. I have bought one before though and it was really good!

    • Reply Alyssa June 23, 2016 at 3:58 pm

It does unfortunately add up, but not if you have frozen fruit on hand!

i havent had an acai bowl before! Everyone raves about them! Is Whole Foods the only place that sells those packs? Ive never seen them anywhere else and i dont go to whole foods much. i need to try this deliciousness!

    • Reply Alyssa June 23, 2016 at 3:58 pm

I think that you can find them in the natural section of grocery stores in the freezer section but I am not positive. The little packs make for the perfect acai bowl. I would definitely try it! 🙂

  • Reply kat June 23, 2016 at 12:58 pm

I have never tried one of these before, mostly because I make such good smoothie bowls at home!! I could totally see myself getting one of these for a meal though if I was out and about!

    • Reply Alyssa June 23, 2016 at 3:59 pm

Your smoothie bowls do always look SO good Kat. 🙂 I love getting them out too- they can for sure make them better than me hehe.

  • Reply Kate June 23, 2016 at 1:11 pm

Literally cannot believe acai bowls are $9 usually like it makes me so irritated lol. I love that you’ve been making your own and the recipe looks delicious! I think I would add a generous honey drizzle on mine too!

    • Reply Alyssa June 23, 2016 at 4:33 pm

Ah such a good idea to add honey!! I am definitely going to do that next time, or agave 🙂

  • Reply Claire @ My Pink & Green Life June 23, 2016 at 6:15 pm

This post finallyyy made me google “what is an acai bowl?” after seeing them all over the place, haha. I really should try one sometime, and this recipe is going to let me do that without spending exorbitant amounts of money. Thank you! 😀

I love experimenting in the kitchen! A large part of that is that I hate wasting food and so I’m constantly substituting out various ingredients in recipes to use up what I have on hand. 🙂

    • Reply Alyssa June 24, 2016 at 11:09 pm

You so should Claire! I bet you would love it. It’s so fruity and delicious! I want to start experimenting more in the kitchen. Maybe if I have more time! Have a great day 🙂

I used to buy those packs back in like 2008 and then forgot about them until they’ve exploded onto the scene again! I love making smoothie bowls; they’re so quick and delicious!

    • Reply Alyssa June 24, 2016 at 11:10 pm

You discovered them before the acai trend- look at you girl! Smoothie bowls are the best though- better than a regular smoothie since you can add all the toppings!

  • Reply Petra @ Crumbles and Kale June 23, 2016 at 7:45 pm

I could never turn a acai-bowl down, they are amazing! I have never added in mango in mine before but I will try it next time 🙂

    • Reply Alyssa June 24, 2016 at 11:10 pm

I liked the taste of mango in it! 🙂
