A Balanced Weekend

September 26, 2016 in Balance / College / Yummy Eats

Hi guys and happy Monday!! Going to be a long week with two exams… but I’ll survive!

Going to be jumping into this post bc intros are always awkward for me, so let’s get started!

This weekend was a great one. It was filled with fun, friends, great food, amazing memories, and lots of smiles.

It was a balanced weekend. What do I mean by that?

I woke up and got a pumpkin muffin from Dunkin Donuts because I was craving one. I love anything pumpkin, and I’ve been craving one for a while so I got one. Simple as that. And it was the perfect fuel for studying.

After studying all morning, I came back and napped for a little over an hour. I had a snacky type lunch, watched some Netflix, and went to the gym.

After the gym, my friends and I went to Hibachi. This was my first time going there! They start off by giving you miso soup and a small salad, then I ordered the Hibachi dinner. It came with noodles, rice, and veggies. And I got a drinkย bowl as well ๐Ÿ™‚ It was such a fun girls night!

After, I went and hung out with some friends, had chocolate, and went to bed pretty late.

I woke up around 11:30 (late for me!!) and showered. I made myself lunch then volunteered at an even called Fresh Check Day from 1:30-3. I ran a table where we had students write a reason why they want to stay alive and are grateful for being alive.

I went to the gym at 5 then grabbed dinner after with my roommate Jen!

We both got chicken caesar salads ๐Ÿ™‚

At night, my friends and I went to a party and late at night we got mozzarella sticks together. Those moments are the ones that I feel so free!

I woke up, grabbed brunch at 12 and enjoyed some eggs, grapes, and hash browns and an iced coffee, then headed to the library. I did work until around 5:45, grabbed dinner, then headed to church.

After church, I went to my friends program in my dorm. I had some chocolate chip cookies then went to the library to finish work and study. After the library, I went back and FaceTimed my best friend from home!

This weekend was definitely not “healthy” and full of all the green foods. It was full of noodles and rice, chocolate, mozzarella sticks, cookies, etc. But the thing is, it was full ofย memories.

I could go into this week with the mindset that I need to clean up my diet, but that isn’t a healthy mindset. Sure, I’m going to eat lots of fruits and veggies this week because I love doing that. But I’m not going to beat myself up for what I ate this weekend.

It’s called balance, and I’m practicing what I preach. And this weekend was filled with little “healthy” foods and lots of food that’s good for the soul. But we all need that, we need those kinds of days and weekends because they truly are so good for our soul.

So what is my mindset today? My mindset is that I had a great weekend. Ate some yummy food, got in some great workouts, and I have no regrets. I’m not going to give food the power to make me feel guilty, because food should never carry that power. It’s something that is so insignificant and shouldn’t be the main source of happiness in our lives. This Monday I’m ready for a new week. I’m craving all the feel good foods, but if I crave those foods that are good for my soul I’ll have those too. My mind isn’t stuck in the mentality that I need to work off what I ate, it’s in the mentality that my weekend was amazing and that’s all I need to focus on. It was aย balanced weekend.

Now tell me:ย

Have you ever been to Hibachi?ย

What does balance mean to you?ย

Have a great Monday guys!! Sending lots of love <3

To me, I think about food balance is exactly how you said, “Iโ€™m not going to give food the power to make me feel guilty, because food should never carry that power.” HELL YES. My weekend involved donuts, beer, and eating out. But it also involved lots of laughter and fun. And I don’t feel guilty about any of it, I feel refreshed and ready for a new week.

Balance means exactly what you said to me. Nourishing your body AND your soul and realizing that sometimes the latter is more important in certain moments! Gosh I miss Dunkin’ Donuts, haha… they need to come to the midwest! ๐Ÿ˜›

These weekends are what recovery is all about. Also cookies ๐Ÿ˜‰ Balance to me means that I am happy every day. Maybe not all day every day, but every day. It means some weeks are full of more exercise than others and some weeks are for social activities and comfort food. Have a great week Lyss!

Balance to me looks exactly like your weekend. Mine was kinda like that too. I ran really low on veges and I couldn’t get to the supermarket because the weather was so crappy and I didn’t want to walk in the rain. I had pizza on sunday night and it was delicious even though it was lacking greens ๐Ÿ˜›

Pizza nights are the BEST ๐Ÿ™‚ And who cares if it was lacking greens, that is definitely what balance is all about! Not feeling the need to have greens all the time

I’ve never been to Habachi but anything with miso is a win in my book. Balance for me means ease of mind. I don’t care what I have to do, but if I’m not stressing about it, I feel balanced.
